A Peek at Last Week

Hey y'all!  I thought I'd do a little update of what we were up to last week.  Sorry I don't have any ideas from preschool but we only had one day this past week!!  So I'll show you what we've been up to in homeschool.
These are the kind of wake up calls I get from my littlest dude!  He is an early riser and often plays on his own for awhile before he comes to get me up saying, "I'm weady for bweakfast, Mommy!"  This morning he scared the mess out of me!!!  Any other Mamas out there get crazy wake ups???

The boys and I absolutely LOVE National Geographic's books.  Since we were learning about penguins this week, we just had to read one of their books on penguins.   Not only is the content age-appropriate and the pictures amazing but we just giggle and giggle over the jokes!  This one was our favorite!
We've been highlighting nonfiction text features so my oldest completed Teaching Owlet's Penguin Text Features Freebie booklet.  It's super cute and really helped him apply text features.
Then he did a little penguin symmetry painting.  Does this guy look like he enjoys homeschool or what???
In Math, we're working on building place value knowledge of numbers 11-19 so he completed a few activities from my newest product, Place Value Rock Star.

We worked on building ramps to help for force and motion and did some study of Martin Luther King Jr.  I didn't snap any pics of those though (insert sad face).  But I did catch a pic of the boys making a fort with the couch cushions (which is pretty much a daily occurrence)!
We even went to a local kid's museum and the park this week so all in all it was an excellent week!

Homeschool

Hello!  (Tap, tap!)  Anyone there?  Not sure if anyone is still reading this blog or not but if you are, well hey!

It's been a long time since I've last blogged (like over 4 months if you're counting).  The reality of it is my life has slowed way down (which should give me more time to blog)!  But by slowing things down, I've been able to be really intentional and purposeful with how I spend my time (and to be honest, blogging hasn't been on that list).  But we've had a big shift in our family and I feel the need to share.  And truly want to try to keep up with blogging more regularly.  =)

The big change is that we are homeschooling our kindergarten son!  There are a lot of reasons why we decided this but it really just boils down to the fact that we truly felt convicted that this is what the Lord wants for him and our family and we're being obedient!  We've gotten off to a great start so far.
We've been having loads of fun and I'm really enjoying planning activities that appeal to his interests and the fact that he's all boy (and likes to move!)  We had fun playing hopscotch to practice counting by tens.
And both of my boys loved mixing up some baking soda and shaving cream to make "snow" ('cause I'm sure that's the only kind we'll see this year!)
He's been reading the first Magic Treehouse book and writing summaries of each chapter.
In math we were working on K.OA.3 and used so many great activities I found on TPT for free (I am so grateful for all the wonderful freebies)!  His favorite was the Decomposing Monster by Jennifer Drake.  So fun!
Well, that's it for now!  I'm hoping to post more regularly and let you know what we're learning.  Thanks for reading!
